LEED Certification
The Lubbock Entertainment and Performing Arts Association (LEPAA) is proud to announce that The Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences has been awarded LEED Certified status. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the most widely used green building rating system in the world and an international symbol of excellence. Through design, construction and operations practices that improve environmental and human health, LEED certified buildings are helping to make the world more sustainable.
“Achieving LEED certification at The Buddy Holly Hall demonstrates our commitment to improving quality of life in our community, not only through performing arts, but through efficient energy use, reducing operating costs and conserving resources,” said Mark Bass, LEPAA board chair and founding board member.
The Buddy Holly Hall achieved LEED certification for implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions in areas including sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality. Green buildings allow businesses to operate more sustainably and give workers and patrons inside them a healthier, more comfortable environment.
The Buddy Holly Hall was designed by Diamond Schmitt Architects, Inc. (DSAI) in partnership with Parkhill, Smith & Cooper, Inc. and MWM Architects, Inc. The development team for the project was led by Buddy Holly Hall developer and asset manager Garfield Public/Private LLC and included Lee Lewis Construction, Inc., among many other leading industry specialists.
“The Buddy Holly Hall development and design team was a true partnership among the best-of-the-best in the industry,” Bass said. “We cannot express enough gratitude for the tremendous thought, consideration and careful execution the team put in to make The Buddy Holly Hall the nationally recognized venue that it is today.”
“LEED certification is the ultimate recognition of global green building leadership, signaling that a space has undergone rigorous third-party verification and meets the highest green building standards,” said Peter Templeton, president and CEO, USGBC. “The success of LEED is due to the partnership and support of those committed to advancing green building and sustainability. Each new LEED certification brings us one step closer to revolutionizing the spaces where we live, learn, work and play.”
Certification is proof that buildings are going above and beyond to ensure the space is constructed and operated to the highest level of sustainability. The goal of LEED certification is to create better buildings that reduce contribution to global climate change, enhance individual human health, protect and restore water resources, protect and enhance biodiversity and ecosystem services, promote sustainable and regenerative material cycles, and enhance community quality of life.
